Love & Divorce in Texas
A recent Census Bureau report found Texans (and Southerners in general) more eager to enter into matrimony than their North Eastern counterparts. The report, based on the 2009 census data, indicated higher overall marriage and divorce rates in Texas.
According to the study, love-struck Texans tend to wed at younger ages than national norms, and marriages in Texas tend to be longer lasting because of this. Conversely, New Englanders tend to wed at later ages in life. Mark Regnerus, a sociologist at the University of Texas, noted that the North Eastern preference to wed at an older age may leave these couples less prone to divorce.
"On average, the people who are entering marriage in the Northeast will probably have a higher-than-average chance of lasting because they are just pickier about getting into the institution..” – Mark Regnerus
